“This is not just a sobering report…this is a damning report. This report is a call to action…no excuses, no boundaries. The only thing that matters is we dramatically reduce these numbers.”
– Darrell Steinberg, Mayor of Sacramento
In 2017, the number of homeless in Sacramento rose by a startling 30 percent from 2015. Now, over 3,600 individuals are homeless, the highest number of people living without permanent housing that Sacramento has ever recorded, according to local homeless organization Sacramento Steps Forward.
“Viewfinder: Homelessness” will explore key factors that are fueling homelessness such as skyrocketing housing costs in Northern California. What resources are missing? Who would pay for them? How does a municipality clear an area of homeless people, knowing those people will simply relocate to another neighborhood?
Many ideas and solutions have been explored and this documentary will raise the dialogue on ways to address this crisis.
