For more than 65 years, PBS KVIE has served our mission to inspire you to explore the world and connect with your community through the integrity of public media.
Unlike commercial media, public broadcasting exists not to sell ads but to serve the public good. Every day, PBS KVIE keeps our region of Northern California connected, informed, and enriched through powerful national and local storytelling, life-saving information, and community engagement events.
PBS KVIE is Essential
Powerful National and Local Storytelling Produced by KVIE

America’s Heartland
- Since its premiere in 2005, America’s Heartland has celebrated the American farmers and ranchers who bring food, fuel, feed, and fiber to the nation and the world.
- These stories have aired more than 440,00 times throughout the nation, helping viewers discover more about agriculture and our country’s diverse bounty of specialty crops.
Inside California Education
- Inside California Education is the only statewide television series highlighting the innovative and lifechanging work being done in California’s public schools.
- Recent stories have looked at the work of inspiring educators, financial and civic literacy, housing issues, pre-K education, and more.

Local Focus that Reflects Our Community
- Series like Rob on the Road, KVIE Arts Showcase, Studio Sacramento, Yes! We’re Open, and ViewFinder provide access to in-depth stories about local history, artists, changemakers, businesses, and more – reflecting the community back to itself.
- The 2024 Sacramento Mayoral Candidates Forum with the four candidates and the subsequent debate and informational interviews with the final two candidates helped Sacramento residents discover more about the candidates’ unique perspectives and make informed decisions about their vote.

Lifesaving Information
PBS KVIE is the lead public television station working with California’s Office of Emergency Services to create an early earthquake warning system throughout the state.
This warning system will provide lifesaving automatic actions before an earthquake strikes, like opening fire station doors and slowing commuter trains. The statewide system can also serve as the backbone for other disaster communications, including wildfires, floods, and other first-responder situations where swift action and communication are essential to saving lives.

Community Engagement Events
- The annual PBS KVIE Art Auction showcases the talent and creativity of artists across Northern California, with KVIE becoming the largest art gallery in the Sacramento region when the art is put on display.
- Screenings, lectures, and discussions enable community members to connect with each other and discover new perspectives.
