How the Art Auction Works

Step 1 Always use the same phone number for faster bidding

Using the same phone number helps you bid quickly during the auction. If you participated during the last five years, you're already in our system and ready to bid. After 3PM on Friday, October 3, any new bidders will be registered at the time they call in to place a bid during auction weekend.

Step 2 Choose your favorite works of art

Explore the collection online or view the artwork in person at PBS KVIE from September 2 through October 1. You can also place a bid online or in person through October 1 before final bidding during the live auction. Note the dates and times your favorite artworks are scheduled to air, and call in to bid!

Step 3 Place a bid during the live Art Auction

Final bidding is conducted by telephone only during the live on-air auction. Start watching before your art comes up for bid, and be ready to call. When the auctioneer announces your item, call the number on the screen. Most items are sold within 15—20 minutes. This year's Art Auction will take place:
  • Friday, October 3, 7PM—10PM
  • Saturday, October 4, Noon—10PM
  • Sunday, October 5, 10AM—8PM

Step 4 Winners will be contacted for confirmation and payment

If you are the winning bidder, PBS KVIE staff will confirm your bid and process payment immediately after the item closes. PBS KVIE only accepts credit cards. We are required by law to collect California sales tax.

Step 5 Pick up your winning artwork!

Confirmed winners may pick up purchased art at PBS KVIE on the following days:

  • Sunday, October 5, 10AM—6PM
  • Monday, October 6, 10AM—6PM
  • Tuesday, October 7, 10AM—6PM

PBS KVIE is located at 2030 W. El Camino Avenue, Sacramento, CA 95833. You will receive a sales receipt upon item pickup. All art must be picked up no later than October 7, unless arrangements are made with the Community Engagement team. While shipping can be arranged by the winning bidder, pickup is preferred. Shipping incurs additional cost and increases the risk of damage.
