Summary

America’s Heartland, the long-running PBS KVIE television series, is returning for its 18th season on more than 300 PBS stations across the U.S. as well as RFD-TV.  This season, the focus is specialty crops, including how they’re grown, how to prepare them, and their nutritional benefits.  Our stories include visits to specialty crop farms and hosted cooking segments featuring specialty crop ingredients.  We are seeking a health and nutrition expert who can share the nutritional benefits of specialty crops, including those enjoyed by diverse communities.  Our ideal Nutrition Segment Host is enthusiastic, comfortable on camera, and based in northern California.

Essential Functions

  • Works with a talented television production team to produce 10 nutrition segments scheduled for airing in 2024 on PBS stations and the RFD-TV cable and satellite channel.
  • Film up to three segments per day, ideally within the same week.
  • Has extensive knowledge of specialty crops and their health and nutritional benefits; knowledge of crops popular with diverse communities a plus.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be mission-driven and passionate about the role of public media.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Effective and proactive communication skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively.
  • Collaborative and works effectively with diverse stakeholders as a team.
  • Positively and professionally represents PBS KVIE throughout the community.
  • Extensive on-camera experience preferred.

Education / Experience

  • Minimum of 2 years of professional on-camera experience.

Special Conditions

  • Available to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Light travel required.
