Explore the Magic of Television!

Are you interested in learning more about broadcast television? Maybe you want to know more about how your favorite PBS characters make it from our station to your TV?  Well, stop by PBS KVIE and experience a behind-the-scenes look at how public media comes to life!

KVIE is proud to offer group tours as part of our outreach efforts. Participants can explore how television is made and transmitted, take a trip through the history of KVIE, learn about our news service, Abridged, and visit one of the largest broadcast production studios in Northern California.

While we schedule tours based on incoming requests rather than fixed dates, we encourage groups to visit KVIE on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday whenever possible.  Tours are offered at 10:30AM or 1:30PM. If your group's schedule doesn't align with those days, don't worry - we're happy to work with you to find a time that fits.  Please add any additional information regarding tour preferences in the request form.

About the Tour

Our friendly staff and volunteer docents guide groups through the station, beginning in the lobby and art gallery before continuing into our broadcast and production areas. Your visit concludes in our studios, where you can try reading from a teleprompter, learn about how a live production comes together, and take a group photo on set.

Some of the places you'll visit include:

  • Green room
  • Editing bay
  • Audio booth
  • Production Control
  • Master Control

Tours are designed for school groups and organizations of 10-15 people, lasting approximately 75 minutes. In the event we need to accommodate a larger group, we would divide participants into two smaller groups and run concurrent tours with additional KVIE facilitators. To ensure availability, please reserve your tour at least 3-4 weeks in advance. Weekend and individual tours are not available.

Tours are best suited for middle school, high school, and college students, or other groups with an interest in media, news, broadcasting, or television production.
