In 2017, Sacramento homelessness rose by a startling 30 percent from 2015. Now over 3,600 individuals are homeless, the highest number of people living without permanent housing Sacramento has ever recorded, according to local homeless organization Sacramento Steps Forward.
“This is not just a sobering report,” commented Sacramento mayor Darrell Steinberg,“thisis a damning report. This report is a call to action, no excuses.”
Viewfinder: Homelessness will explore key factors that are fueling homelessness such as skyrocketing housing costs in Northern California. What resources are missing? Who would pay for them? How does a municipality clear an area of homeless people, knowing those people will simply relocate to another neighbhorhood?
Many ideas and solutions have been explored and this documentary will raise the dialogue on ways to address this crisis.
