Studio Sacramento is KVIE’s Emmy Award-winning weekly series designed to raise the level of civil discourse in our region on local television. Studio Sacramento gathers community leaders to discuss the big questions facing our region, inviting thousands of viewers into the conversation.
Studio Sacramento focuses on a variety of topics - from the status of foster care in our community to the what it’s like to be Muslim in America today. Former District Attorney of Sacramento County, Jan Scully, Chief of Sacramento Police, Sam Somers, and Marcos Breton of the Sacramento Bee have joined Scott in discussing a variety of issues relevant to our region. Each new season of Studio Sacramento aims to attract a high caliber of guests, as well as national figures with local connections.
On a recurring basis, the program is presented in editorial partnership with the American Leadership Forum (ALF), whose mission is to improve the social, economic, and political fabric of the Greater Sacramento region through shared commitment to collaborative action.
While available for everyone in our 28-county viewing area to see, Studio Sacramento is aimed at the 28% of the population interested in civic and political issues . Since the July 2011 premiere, the weekly airings are cumulatively averaging just over 10,000 viewers a week, similar to ratings from PBS mainstays such as Washington Week, Nightly Business Report and even PBS NewsHour in some instances.
The 30-minute programs are studio-based, with limited or no b-roll or graphics. The set is minimal, providing focus on the host and guests. Host and prominent community member Scott Syphax identifies topics and guests and ensures that conversations are significant, inclusive of a diverse set of views, and ultimately transformative and collaborative.
