Leads PBS KVIE’s efforts to produce high-quality, impactful news content that engages and informs our community. This role shapes the strategic direction, creation, and distribution of news and information programming across multiple media platforms. Essential Functions

  • Develops and executes a comprehensive strategy for PBS KVIE’s news and information content across all platforms.
  • Oversees planning, production, and distribution of compelling, high-quality news programming.
  • Ensures all content aligns with PBS KVIE’s mission and editorial standards of accuracy, impartiality, and inclusivity.
  • Recruits, mentors, and manages a talented team of content creators.
  • Manages budgets and resources to optimize PBS KVIE’s operations and ensure fiscal responsibility.
  • Oversees implementation of best practices for technology, workflows, and multimedia production.
  • Provides professional development opportunities to ensure staff stay at the forefront of industry trends.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Must be mission-driven and passionate about the role of public media.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Proficiency in technology and software to enhance efficiency in editing, newsroom management, database organization, and analytics.
  • Clear, open, and proactive communication skills.
  • Highly organized and detail-oriented with the ability to multi-task, prioritize, and manage time effectively to meet deadlines.
  • Collaborative and works effectively with diverse stakeholders as a team.
  • Positively and professionally represents PBS KVIE throughout the community and in forums and events related to news and information.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills with a commitment to diversity, inclusion, and employee development.
  • Strong editorial judgment in investigative journalism, breaking news, and documentary-style reporting with a commitment to journalistic integrity.
  • Deep familiarity with the Sacramento region or Northern California’s concerns, communities, and landscape.
  • Expertise in digital storytelling, audience development, and emerging trends in news media.

Education / Experience

  • BA/BS degree in Journalism or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of 10 years of newsroom leadership experience, including managing multimedia content.

Special Conditions

  • Must have a valid California driver’s license and meet insurance standards.
  • Available to work evenings and weekends as needed.
  • Light local travel required.
