KVIE's programming philosophy is to air and create programs that reflect the community back to itself. In doing so, our productions reflect our rich history, introduce us to the people and places in the present, and help us plan for the future.

In addition to our productions America's Heartland, California Heartland, Central Valley Chronicles, and California Connected, we are proud of the range of relevant, compelling and diverse programs that we've produced this year.

And, we're particularly proud that we earned 10 Emmy Awards in 2004, more than any other station in our market.

Natural Beauty: Salon Secrets at Home
Discover the Benefits of All Natural Home Beauty Treatments

As our lives get more and more hectic, it is imperative that we take some time for ourselves to relax, re-energize, and rejuvenate. Beauty expert Laura DuPriest shows you how you can pamper yourself and create beauty treatments in the comfort of your own home in a 2-hour public television special.

From home-created masks and acid treatments, to facial scrubs and toner, Laura DuPriest mixes recipes from the basic items found in the fridge and pantry. "Natural Beauty: Salon Secrets at Home" offers an easy, do-it-yourself skin care alternative that cost pennies on the dollar compared to commercial and home-based business product lines. After years of research and experimentation, DuPriest's natural recipes provide a safe and effective alternative to improve skin condition and avoid allergic reactions caused by chemicals associated with commercial products.

You will discover the benefits that all-natural products offer as DuPriest presents step-by-step examples that can be immediately duplicated in the home. A comprehensive pamphlet is available as a thank-you gift for supporting public television that explains how certain fruits, vegetables, and other basic ingredients are combined and applied to pamper the skin. In the pamphlet DuPriest also offers advice on body toning message techniques, aromatherapy to relax the mind, and provides makeup application tips gained from years of experience.

Sample Recipes

Laura's Oatmeal Mask for
Softening the Skin

Mix one egg white with two tablespoons of oatmeal or oat bran. Add a tiny bit of warm water until it is the consistence of a thick soup. Apply to face with a soft paintbrush or fingers. Leave on until dry (about 15 minutes). Rinse off with warm water.

At Home Epsom Salt and Oil Body Scrub
Mix a tablespoon of Epsom Salt with canola oil or olive oil, about half and half. Rub the skin and rinse off in the shower.

Puffy Eye Hint

For puffy eyes, keep spoons in the freezer. Apply the bowl of the spoon to puffy skin under the eyes.

Elbow and Knee Conditioner
For dry knees and elbows, cut a lemon in half and rub the skin. Let the skin dry or blot with a tissue. The acid of the lemon will help soften the skin. Wrap and refrigerate the lemon for more applications.
