Host Mailha Yang and videographer Rich Enos capture elements for an upcoming episode.

KVIE's programming philosophy is to air and create programs that reflect the community back to itself. In doing so, our productions reflect our rich history, introduce us to the people and places in the present, and help us plan for the future.

In addition to our productions America's Heartland, California Heartland, Central Valley Chronicles, and California Connected, we are proud of the range of relevant, compelling and diverse programs that we've produced this year.

And, we're particularly proud that we earned 10 Emmy Awards in 2004, more than any other station in our market.

"I think that I shall never see a poem as lovely as a tree." That popular refrain by poet Alfred Joyce Kilmer has long expressed our deep affection for trees.

In California, we are blessed with an abundance of trees. Even our state capital possesses the fitting nickname "The City of Trees," with more than 150,000 trees that compose our urban forest. Nature offers her bounty in all shapes, sizes, and colors. Some are dressed in needles and cones. Others unfold a dazzling transformation of foliage from green to yellow, then crimson. Some are so tall, they scrape the sky, while others bear fruit and nuts that spring from our orchards. Trees give us beauty, shade, and help clean our air. It's no exaggeration that trees are California's most valuable and treasured assets.

Join us as respected travel reporter Paul Ryan - host of KVIE's "Experience America"- goes in search of the Golden State's most beloved and grand trees. From the giant Sequoia to the gnarly Bristle Cone Pine and California's majestic Oak, Paul shows you why trees have become attractions in and of themselves. We'll travel to the strange desert world of the Joshua Tree, then show you where Californians can experience a riot of dazzling fall colors.

Plus, Paul shows you where to find free or low-cost shade trees for your own backyard courtesy of the Sacramento Tree Foundation and other organizations. You’ll not only have trees delivered right to your door but find out where best to plant them so they thrive and how to nourish them to a healthy old age.

You'll never look at trees the same way again after watching "Branching Out: Your Guide to California Trees."
