  About Us

KVIE is far more than television. In fact, we don't think of ourselves as being in the business of television. Our business, rather, is really about ideas, learning, arts and culture, and citizenship. Television is simply the means by which we deliver these resources to our community.

As a public service, we profit by improving the community in which we depend for support. We succeed to the extent that our children learn, our viewers become engaged in matters that concern them, and those within our communities join together in a common cause.

In 1946, there weren't enough diapers, schools, colleges, jobs and housing to take care of an exploding peacetime population of American children. Soon, there may not be enough caregivers to provide for this rapidly aging population. Advances in medicine have made it possible to survive for years with chronic conditions, creating a new population of persons in need of caregiving…and therefore, a new population of caregivers. Many of us will be both in our lifetimes - caregiver and the cared-for. This month a new 2-hour special, And Thou Shalt Honor address the various aspects of caregiving in a warm and caring documentary.

Hosted by actor Joe Mantegna, And Thou Shalt Honor makes it clear that today's longer life-spans come at a cost, and that a disproportionate amount of that cost is borne by those who step up to assume responsibility for their loved ones. Meet dedicated caregivers from all across America who have made caring for sick or elderly loved ones a top priority - spending hours, days, months, and sometimes years to achieve quality care. Not everything about long-term caregiving is dark, however. As this program brings to light, the commitment can be a spiritual journey that expands the boundaries of love.
