Fifty years ago, KVIE Public Television’s first broadcast filled the airwaves, becoming just the second public television station in the Golden State. Thanks to a dedicated group of community members who joined together in the late 1940s and worked tirelessly for over a decade before KVIE’s first broadcast, public television has served everyone with a television through quality programming that educates, enriches, enlightens, and inspires.
No one could have predicted what KVIE would look like 50 years from its initial broadcast, but those who were instrumental in its beginnings no doubt would be pleased to know that the foundation they helped build has become even stronger through the years because of the generous support we’ve received from the people we serve.
Throughout the year, KVIE is celebrating the milestones that made its first 50 years of broadcasting so memorable. Take a nostalgic trip down memory lane with the documentary ViewFinder: KVIE at 50. In addition to the documentary, KVIE will air vignettes during 2009 that highlight five decades of station history and will also hold an event in the spring.
Thank you for being a part of KVIE’s past 50 years. We’re looking forward to serving you in out next 50.
