KVIE Outreach - For Healthy Kids
Overview | Nutrition | How Parents Can Help | Recipe Tips | Resources

Kaiser Permanente and public broadcasting stations, invite families to live well, be well and thrive though an exciting new campaign that encourages children to eat healthy and stay active.
The new initiative, For Healthy Kids, demonstrates the importance of childhood nutrition and offers valuable tips for parents to help their children enjoy healthy foods and an active lifestyle.
According to the American Obesity Association (AOA), obesity in children is a serious issue with many health and social consequences that can continue in to adulthood. Children who are overweight or obese are at risk for Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol. They are also prone to low self-esteem that stems from being teased, bullied, or rejected by their peers. They may also be more likely than average-weight children to develop unhealthy dieting habits and eating disorders, such as anorexia nervosa and bulimia.
KVIE, along with other California Public Television Stations, and Kaiser Permanente will help children get on the road to good health through the For Healthy Kids campaign. This initiative provides valuable information for families through a series of televised spots focusing on tips for healthy eating, creating a healthy eating environment, and steps parents can take to help children maintain a healthy weight.
In addition, families who attend KVIE’s community events can receive a complete Healthy Start Kit just by signing a pledge card and making a commitment to healthy living. This kit includes a magnet featuring the food pyramid, a pocket guide with valuable information for good health and more.
KVIE is co-sponsoring and participating in several community events where families can receive a complete Healthy Start Kit just by signing a pledge card and making a commitment to healthy living.
