History - Social Science
Resettlement to Redress: Rebirth of the Japanese-American Community Resettlement to Redress: Rebirth of the Japanese-American Community examines the resettlement of Japanese Americans after World War II through the signing of HR442 by President Reagan in 1988, wherein it was formally acknowledged that internment was based on racism and merited an apology and reparation. Los Braceros: Strong Arms to Aid the U.S.A. Los Braceros: Strong Arms to Aid the U.S.A. examines the United States' 1942 entrance into World War II, which sent soldiers overseas, flooded women into the workforce, and resulted in an immense shortage of labor, especially in the agricultural sector. The creation of the Braceros Program in 1942, under The Braceros Treaty opened the floodgates for legal immigration of Mexican laborers. Grade 11: California History. [download lesson] [DVD]
In its heyday in the 30s, the lively area of Little Manila in Stockton had the largest population of Filipinos outside of the Philippines. Letters to the Valley. David Mas Masumoto is a third generation Central Valley farmer who grows peaches, nectarines, and grapes on his 80-acre organic farm. He's also a prolific writer. The series provides an engaging opportunity to learn about the diversity and contribution of farmers and ranchers in feeding, clothing, and fueling the world.
