Lesson Plans for KVIE Documentaries
Our original lesson plans, correlated to California content standards, are developed by local master teachers for use with KVIE produced documentaries.
African-Americans in California's Heartland explores the history of African Americans in the Central Valley and Sierra Nevada from the Gold Rush through the 1950s. These four lessons were developed to accompany KVIE's documentary.

The Sacramento: River of Life journeys into California's past and future including its wildlife, the people who have lived alongside it and those who work to preserve its health and educate people about it. Two lessons were developed to accompany KVIE's documentary.
Grades 9-12 - Earth Science and Chemistry Standards. [DVD]

Los Braceros: Strong Arms to Aid the U.S.A. examines the United States' 1942 entrance into World War II, which sent soldiers overseas, flooded women into the workforce, and resulted in an immense shortage of labor, especially in the agricultural sector. The creation of the Braceros Program in 1942 under The Braceros Treaty opened the floodgates for legal immigration of Mexican laborers.

Resettlement to Redress: Rebirth of the Japanese-American Community examines the resettlement of Japanese-Americans after World War II through the signing of HR442 by President Reagan in 1988, wherein it was formally acknowledged that interment was based on racism and merited an apology and reparation.
