NOTE: The April OnSix Guide included a telephone number discrepancy. We apologize for any inconvenience, and assure you the 888 number listed here provides accurate, non-commercial information about converting to digital television.
On February 17, 2009, television will switch from the old method of transmitting TV signals known as analog to digital television (DTV). DTV is an innovative new type of broadcasting technology that delivers movie-quality pictures and sound. In addition to watching digital, you will also be able to watch programs produced in high definition (HDTV), which offers even better quality pictures and sound than digital. The new digital spectrum will also be used for an important benefit: local emergency communications.
For all our viewers, particularly those watching over-the-air (OTA), this switch to digital means you will receive more KVIE channels to watch. For our OTA viewers, the conversion requires just a simple new converter box, allowing you to keep your existing TV set.
For cable and satillite viewers no action is necessary, unless you choose to convert to OTA then a converter box may be necessary.
Converter boxes are anticipated to cost approximately $60, but as low at $39.99. The federal government is offering households up to two $40 coupons towards the purchase of a converter box(es). To register for a coupon, click the "TV Converter Box Coupon Program" image below.
