Testimonials from KVIE Volunteers Want to send your quote or contact KVIE's Volunteer Coordinator? Contact Evie Turner at eturner@kvie.org or 916-641-3593 PBS is the only quality television out there today. I watch more PBS than probably all the other television offerings combined. I never miss Frontline. I never miss NOW, never miss NOVA or Nature, and never, ever, miss NewsHour with Jim Lehrer. I feel connected to the world, the country, my state and my city because of PBS programs. I have been watching PBS since my children were babies. Sesame Street was my "Mothers Little Helper"! Burt and Ernie made learning so much fun for my girls. So being able to give back for the years that I had depended on KVIE, was reason enough to be volunteering my time. Volunteering at KVIE has been the best thing that I could have done for myself. It is my desire that KVIE maintain and enhance its commitment to serving the public and if my participation can contribute to that effort I am more than willing to give it my best. It is heart-warming to talk with people from different age groups, life experiences, and locations and find we all have something in common: appreciating KVIE. I’ve learned to teach, to lead, to compromise, to follow, to channel my passions for a greater good, and to do it all with heart. I’ve made some of the best friends I’ve ever had within the walls of that building on Capitol Oaks Drive. And I’ve learned how to be a friend to a most uncommon companion—a television station, a mission, a dream. Amid the fear and uncertainty of a serious medical condition Channel 6 was still there, even in Dad’s hospital room, to offer a sense of normalcy, familiarity, even comfort. I like to donate not just from a financial standpoint, but also with my time. I volunteer because I love public television! It's that simple. I also love art and like to promote it as an Art Auction Committee volunteer. I volunteer because of the people. They are there for the right reasons. I like to be around people of like minds. It's really about the people. We like giving back to the community. We also have fun being at KVIE! KVIE has great and unique programs that you can't find anywhere else. I appreciate the cultural and local programs. KVIE is consistently one of my favorites for a few reasons. The most compelling reason, though, is the staff. Our organization has hundreds of volunteer experiences to look back on in 2005, but for those lucky enough to work the KVIE Art Auction, it stands out as one of the best. I've watched KVIE all my life, it's my favorite channel. Now that I'm retired, I want to volunteer my time because public television is a worthwhile cause. We are all one community and need to support KVIE. I like being in the environment! I volunteer because of the interesting programs and meeting interesting people. KVIE does a wonderful service for our community. It’s the only TV worth watching. |
